We live in a society where we are always on the go, physically and mentally. We have appointments, job interviews, classes, and places to be at specific times. Our thoughts are plagued with fears, anxieties, and stress. I believe we can all agree that it is hard to find time to slow down and become mindful— for some, the thought to do so may never cross our mind. However, there are many benefits to meditation and multiple ways to do so that can lead to feelings of well-being and happiness.
WAYS TO MEDITATE
Here are 3 ways for you to meditate, even on the go!
1. Become mindful of your existence. Feel your feet on the ground, focus on the air moving in and out of your lungs, listen to the sounds around you, examine the colors, objects, people you see closer.
2. Watch a short meditation video on Youtube. Here are a few of my favorites: 5 Minute Relaxation Music for Yoga and Meditation, 5 Minute Guided Meditation for Positivity and Grounding, 5 Minute Guided Calming Meditation. Feel free to look for one that suits you!
3. Draw a meaningful picture. The picture should have a meaning behind the emotion you are feeling or the thing that may be troubling you. Take your time, this should be no quick sketch!
THE BENEFITS OF MEDITATION
There are numerous benefits of meditation that our current and future selves can prosper from. It can reduce stress by lowering cortisol levels which causes less inflammation, better sleep quality, and decreases symptoms of anxiety and depression. Also, meditation can promote positive self-image and create a better outlook on life. Finally, meditation can generate kindness by increasing feelings of happiness which causes positive interactions between you and others.
