Ma(s)king a Change

COVID-19 is affecting millions of individuals worldwide in this global pandemic, however, communities are coming together to make a change and assist healthcare workers by making reusable masks.

Julie Pontell, a mother in Southeastern Wisconsin, has inspired her community to help with her mission of making reusable masks for those who work in healthcare! An article titled "Coronavirus: Deaconess asks public to sew CDC-compliant face masks for staff" inspired Julie and her daughter, Madeline. Julie's older daughter, Janelle Marquardt works in the healthcare field and initially told her mother about the shortage (of masks).

Julie posted her plea on Facebook stating "Attn: All you people who sew. I could get enough fabric for 180 masks, but only enough elastic for 100. If you have any 1/4”(preferred), 3/8”, or cord in your stash that you can donate, PM me. It takes about 1/2 yard per mask."

The response from close friends and others was receptive as many people were ready to hop on board! Many donations of supplies and money have been put into the effort.

A nice feeling to know that even in times like these, people can come together to create a positive change with an act of kindness!

Support Julie's mission here.
